If you want to change your computers Ip address on Windows Vista, things have changed a little bit. You will need to go to the Network and Sharing center which is a new feature in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
This will bring up a small box with a link to the Network and Sharing Center. See the screenshot below. If you do not have this icon in the notification area you can go to the start menu , click on control panel , then double click on the Network and Sharing center icon.
When the Network and Sharing Center appears, press on the link View Status , as shown in the screenshot below. Your connection status will appear. Press on the properties button. The message that I receive is "The requested operation requires elevation" and I am not sure what that means. Can someone plz help me?? Thanks in advance. Moved to DOS section. Are you sure the IP on the network device and the static IP your selecting are in the same range, ie. X for example? If the network device is using a different subnet than the laptop that would cause this issue.
Have you tried a cross-over cable versus a straight patch cable? How satisfied are you with this reply?
