Although the WiMAX certification process begins this summer, carriers and device makers are already jockeying for position. Because of the delays associated with the technology, the initial plans for dedicated external customer-premise equipment CPEs will be overhauled as quickly as possible, manufacturers say, to take WiMAX to the masses as quickly as possible.

The EasyST has been designed with three versions in mind, one using an internal 6dBi antenna, another using an external 10 dBi antenna that can be mounted on a window, and a third model that adds WiFi functionality to allow networking throughout the home.

The base station will include a slot for a SIM card, the technology used in Europe to identify phones and allow them to use a designated network. Over the next two years, we expect to see 5G deployed in a wide variety of applications, unlike 4G which has initially focused on mobile broadbard services and only later evolved to support low-speed loT and high-speed gigabit services.

One of the only 5G standalone, end-to-end solutions, the cloud-native software aims to accelerate the next generation of wireless networks. By adding small cells, running in dedicated, licensed spectrum to macro networks at cell edge, either outdoors or indoors, the service experience to end users is dramatically improved, and in tandem, increases speeds and network capacity.

CBRS affords another opportunity for users in the US to expand access to spectrum for enhanced Mobile Broadband Services eMBB , as well as setting up private networks that are separate from licensed and expensive spectrum.
