Size 1. Hot Tools 1. I love it so far. My hair is not too curly so I think that the more modestly priced irons like this work fine. This is very nice for the price. It doesn't give my hair any weird burnt smell that some cheaper ones do.
I feel like it is made out of what it says it is because my hair doesn't feel too damaged after use. Perfect for touch ups too. I really like how well I can control the temperature all the way down to degrees if I want.
Most hair irons don't go that low. Only thing that worries me is the crackling sound it makes when on but I think that's just because it's new. I think it's starting to go away. Oh and the curling iron free gift is amazing! I can't believe it was free. I feel like even if I don't like the iron anymore after a while it's still worth it for the free curling iron. I believe you can also choose another hair iron instead as a gift.
I was also about to do a Keratin straightening at home and wanted a good flat iron with high temps. I went into the store and after talking with the sales gal who couldn't really give me any good reason to buy the more pricey models over this cheaper one from Hot Tools , I decided to buy them both and do a side by side comparison at home between this Hot Tools flat iron and a Croc Titanium iron at more than double the price.
She assured me I could return the one I didn't want as long as it was completely repackaged as if new. I did one side of my head with the Hot Tools, one side with the Croc and there really was NO comparison.
I started with the Croc on the right half and was completely wowed with the quickness of the results. One easy swipe and my thick wavy hair was stick straight. My hair doesn't swing or move or demonstrate any of those bouncy hair commercial qualities! Today it did and this was NOT while doing a keratin treatment. This was just after my normal shampoo and blow dry. Not only was I amazed by the Croc results, I loved the weight and ergonomic design of this device.
It also clamped down on the hair at just the right tension. Then I did the left side with the Hot Tools on the same temperature setting. Not even close. It took multiple passes on each section and it wasn't nearly as straight, shiny or silky. The Hot Tools model felt like good quality, it heated up fast and glided through my hair just fine. But the results side by side were obvious. This flat iron went back to the store the next day. This is the first time I've done a side by side comparison.
So glad I did because I may have been satisfied with the Hot Tools iron just on it's own given the super reasonable price point. The straightener is lightweight and easy to use. It heats up quickly.
But it does pull my hair every time I use it. When I saw that it went up to degrees, I thought it would work great on AA hair. It got my hair straight not the straightest and definitely snagged it. Would not recommend. I have thick curly coarse hair. This did pull my hair a few times. It is true it has a small gap between the iron plate. I red other reviewers saying the same. It also dose not close down tight on your hair unless you apply strong pressure. It's is good for my hair below my root.
